Magdalene supports Boldyn Networks in boosting mobile performance across London 10th April 2024

Magdalene, a part of M Group Services’ Telecom Division, has been chosen by Boldyn Networks (Boldyn), one of the world’s largest shared network infrastructure providers, to install small cells across London as part of the Streetscape project.

Boldyn Networks had been awarded a 20-year contract by Transport for London (TfL) to deliver high speed mobile connectivity across the entire London Underground Network, and to build a new digital infrastructure for London connecting buildings and street assets, via a new fibre network to deliver city-wide improvements.

Tube stations across London will act as connectivity hubs, with street assets such as lighting columns and bus stops hosting a network of small mobile transmitters to bring city-wide connectivity improvement.

The small powered cellular radio unit, installed to the top of a lighting column in the Euston area, offers enhanced mobile coverage and capacity, with speeds of over 200 Mbps. Powered by brand new gigabit fibre, the first small cell unit is strategically located near one of the UK’s busiest stations, Kings Cross, providing better connectivity for the busy transport hub.

As Boldyn Network’s build partners, Magdalene is supporting Boldyn to build of a new Fibre network across London.

Working on the civil engineering aspect of the project, Magdalene is delivering a full Turnkey solution for Boldyn Networks, including survey, design, build, innovation, and in-life service management.

Magdalene is committed to working with Boldyn Networks and its supply chain partners in a shared goal to bring connectivity directly into London's neighbourhoods, with gigabit-capable speeds that will support digital inclusion and future growth.

Tony Digweed, Head of Mobile at Magdalene, said: “The team at Magdalene are very proud to be delivering this exciting programme for Boldyn Networks, enhancing mobile connectivity which will benefit thousands of people every day. ”

Ken Ranger, COO at Boldyn Networks UK & Ireland, said: “Boldyn Networks are committed to building a new digital infrastructure for London and bringing high-speed mobile connectivity to the London Underground network in partnership with Transport for London. We look forward to continuing to work with Magdalene as they deploy further small cells across the network. ”
