Magdalene awarded contract for support of the GEANT2 network, managed by DANTE.

Magdalene has been awarded a five year contract for the network operations support of the GÉANT2 network, the pan-European multi-gigabit data communications network managed by DANTE.  Under the terms of this contract, Magdalene will provide first point of contact operational support for any matters affecting the operation of GÉANT2, which is reserved specifically for research and education use.

DANTE’s selection of Magdalene for this key role in their support model follows several months of evaluation and verification of capabilities to ensure that Magdalene’s existing network operations facilities will smoothly interface to the rest of DANTE’s support structure.  Dai Davies, General Manager at DANTE said  “Throughout the evaluation process DANTE has been impressed with Magdalene’s evident focus on network operations and their professional approach to seeking a solution that mutually suits both parties”.

DANTE is a non-profit organisation, coordinator of large-scale projects co-funded by the European Commission, and working in partnership with European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to plan, build and operate advanced networks for research and education. DANTE has built and operates GÉANT2, which provides the data communications infrastructure essential to the success of many research projects in Europe. DANTE is involved in worldwide initiatives to interconnect countries in the other regions to one another and to GÉANT2. DANTE currently manages projects focussed on the Mediterranean, Latin American and Asia-Pacific regions through the EUMEDCONNECT, ALICE and TEIN2 projects, respectively.
